What is the census?

The Census of Population and Housing (Census, in short) is an official measure of persons and dwellings in Malta and Gozo, taken at a specific point in time. It is a nationwide exercise carried out every ten years and is governed by national and EU laws.

Why it matters?

The census holds great value both at national and international level. Nationally, the census provides precise information on the resident population, their housing and dwelling characteristics. Internationally, the collection of harmonised data across the European Union allows for comparison between Member States.
